At the heart of UT Health San Antonio’s new Center for Brain Health, art, memory, and community come together in a powerful way. ReCollections: Art Conversations to Stimulate the Mind is transforming the lives of individuals living with Alzheimer’s and related dementias — and the families who care for them.

Through intimate conversations about art, hands-on creative projects, and shared personal stories, participants are finding renewed connection, confidence, and joy. Guided by museum educators and supported by specialists from the San Antonio Museum of Art (SAMA), each session blends visual discovery with meaningful reminiscence, helping attendees feel seen, valued, and deeply understood.
The ReCollections art program is also extending its impact beyond scheduled events by placing activity kits in the Pam Burdick Art Room at the Center for Brain Health, inviting patients to create while they wait for appointments and to carry the joy of artmaking home.
As the program grows from quarterly to monthly gatherings, ReCollections continues to reaffirm one simple truth: art has the power to heal, inspire, and bring people together in ways that matter most.
