Education

Dr. Teixeira graduated in Medicine from the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), Belo Horizonte, Brazil, where he also completed his clinical training in psychiatry, internal medicine and neurology. In parallel with his clinical training, he pursued a PhD and postdoctoral fellowships in cellular biology/neuroimmunology.

Research

Antonio L. Teixeira, MD, PhD, is the Orme Endowed Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry at the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s and Neurodegenerative Diseases at UT Health San Antonio, where he is actively involved in clinical care and research of older adults with Alzheimer’s disease and neuropsychiatric conditions. Dr. Teixeira’s research aims at identifying the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying the development of behavioral symptoms in the context of dementia to develop safer and more effective therapeutic interventions.
